My son is a real heartbreaker.  No, not like that. He would collapse into himself at the very suggestion of that.  He’s a heartbreaker in that my heart is breaking for him every day that I have to watch him navigate the emotional jungle that is middle school. I think we can all agree, this is a brutal time. While walking through it with him has been tricky at best and downright brutal most of the time, it has not been totally without reward. Loving the 13 year old in front of me has helped lend a bit of perspective and understanding to my own 13 year old self.

I did something scary back in June and everyday I’m learning to lean into the scary and accept that the fear may not ever go away. I want to share with you why that’s a good thing.

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the ‘why’ behind my general feeling of malaise. To simply chalk it up to the pandemic may be an accurate explanation. However, it doesn’t feel entirely adequate.
