Coaching Conversations While it may seem early, I’ve been thinking a lot about next year. What I want for the business, what I want for me, and what it’s going to take to get there. I have some great ideas - there’s never a shortage of great, well-intentioned ideas. But, dwelling too long on all these great ideas has a tendency to cause overwhelm and not all of them need to be done right now. So, before I start assigning myself to-do’s and get lost in the weeds of it all, I stop and ask myself, “why?” Why is this important? By exploring the why, I can hold myself accountable to my vision and values and ensure alignment between them and the work. I can better determine if this is a right now project or something that is for future Shelby. Most importantly, when I am working through the tedious bits that are a part of any and all projects, I can remind myself of the why and use it as motivation to push through. Because anyone who knows me knows that I love ideas, but I do not love details . . . and there are always SO many details. So, my friends, as you start thinking about next year and all that you would like to accomplish, before you worry about making sure your goals are S.M.A.R.T., make sure it matters.
